Compelling visuals + Compelling stories

Compelling films arise out a thoughtfully crafted stories. Our job, beyond the obvious technical requirements that make a film a film, is to find the significant moments that provide plot points for a storyline. The more visually interesting we can make the film the better but without conflict and a desire on the part of our film’s character to overcome that conflict we end up with just a pretty film. Ultimately every story needs this basic framework. A character’s desire and an obstruction that must be overcome to fulfill that desire. In creating documentary film it’s not always an easy process to find the motivating desire of a character. In some cases it’s what’s left unsaid, what the character isn’t talking about that informs this. That’s just a part of our process but figuring this out is what makes a story worth telling.
